Ruth has nearly twenty years' experience in commercial litigation, commercial loans transactions, tax and corporate advisory. She has represented Banks in lender enforcement actions, insolvency disputes, defective securities claims, asset finance and leasing matters. Her other areas of litigation experience include; commercial agreements, shareholders' disputes and company liquidations. Ruth has also handled some of the unprecedented trademarks and drug regulations disputes in Uganda. Her exposure to commercial disputes helps her to bring insight to decision making to the boards that she advises.

Heading the firm’s tax practice now, Ruth works to offer to Clients practical and strategic advice on various aspects of both national and international tax law. She advises on business set-ups, business reorganizations, intra-group services and agreements and transfer pricing issues.

Ruth has written articles on constitutionalism and the rule of law, access to justice, dispute resolution and legal ethics. She is a frequent speaker at conferences on reducing the gender gap, access to justice, removing barriers to the advancement of women within the legal profession and law practice issues. Her voluntary work includes serving on the Special Olympics Board and as a Mentor with the GiZ My World Mentorship Program for young ladies.

Ruth worked with Kalenge, Bwanika, Kimuli & Co. Advocates and later with Deloitte Uganda as a tax advisor before founding Ligomarc. She holds a Master of Laws in International Business Law from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. She is a member of Uganda Law Society, East Africa Law Society, International Fiscal Association, and International Bar Association.

Ruth served as President of the Uganda Law Society for the period (March 2013- April 2016).


Kabiito Karamagi

Kabiito is currently the Managing Partner of the Firm. He is an advocate of seventeen years standing, and specializes in corporate finance, liquidations, asset finance, receiverships, corporate rescues and restructures. Following his numerous appointments as Receiver/Manager of many a failing companies and having turned around some of these, his name is resounding in the Banking community. He has spearheaded numerous recoveries and receiverships in varied sectors for financial institutions.

Owing to his experience in insolvency law, Kabiito served on a Team of Consultants retained by Uganda Law Reform Commission to study, review and reform the laws governing Corporate and individual insolvency and cross border insolvency. He was also retained by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau to advise on the preparation of appropriate Insolvency Regulations, which are to be used by the Bureau following the commencement of the new Insolvency Act.

Kabiito is also an expert in leasing law, and has conducted seminars to train Judges and lawyers for the World Bank in Rwanda. He also participated in the preparation of a Micro Leasing Manual for microfinance institutions in Rwanda for the International Finance Corporation/ World Bank. He has also had significant experience in leasing litigation and recoveries.

He has also served the Second Economic Management Project (EFMP II Project), a World Bank funded project under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, as Assisting Counsel in its implementation of the Integrated Financial Management Systems (IFMS) Project.

Kabiito holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) Hons. from Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda and is a member of the Uganda Law Society and the East African Law Society.

Kabiito was also formerly employed by M/s Kalenge, Bwanika, Kimuli & Co. Advocates, and also worked as an External Lecturer of Post Graduate Studies at the Law Development Centre, Kampala, Uganda. His professional memberships include Uganda Law society and East Africa Law Society.


Joshua Ogwal

Joshua heads Ligomarc’s Finance, Power and Infrastructure practice under which he oversees the Firm’s advisory on infrastructure transactions. Joshua is a leading financial lawyer in Uganda with significant experience in providing financial and infrastructure law advisory, including advisory on development and restructuring of electricity projects, advice on compliance and regulatory issues, and project finance.

Prior to joining Ligomarc, Joshua worked within Uganda’s Financial Services Industry as an in-house counsel. He led teams at Dfcu Group (DFCU), a financial services group in Uganda, where he rose to the position of Head of Legal and Corporation Secretary.  He also worked with the East African Development Bank (EADB) as Principal Legal Officer where he advised on several financing transactions in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. During his employment in the financial sector, Joshua participated in several complex financial and commercial transactions, including: Syndicated loan transactions, Corporate and Project Finance transactions, Public Private Partnerships, Equity finance transactions and derivative transactions.  He has also had significant Company law and Corporate Governance experience, having advised both the Boards of DFCU and EADB.

Joshua holds a Masters of Science (MSc.) degree in Finance and Financial Law from the University of London (Centre for Financial and Management Studies) and is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda.



Olivia Kyarimpa Matovu

Olivia is an astute dispute resolution practitioner with 10 years’ experience. She has represented financial institutions and other corporate bodies in various multi-faceted litigation disputes ranging from security enforcement, contractual enforcement and employment disputes to mention but a few

She heads the dispute resolution arm of the firms’ practice where she oversees all the service delivery aspects of the litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

Prior to focusing mainly on dispute resolution, Olivia spear headed the firm’s securities audit and perfections practice which was handled by the firm for its financial institution’s clientele. She has also provided tax advisory services to some of the firm’s clientele.

Olivia is a member of the Uganda Law Society, East African Society, Young International Arbitration Lawyers and the Editorial Board of the Uganda Law Reports.

Olivia is keen on sharing the knowledge she has acquired over the years. As such, she is a member of the Ugandan Faculty of the Justice Advocacy Africa, a non-government organization, affiliated to the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Minnesota, that trains Advocates and Lawyers in Trial Advocacy skills. She offers her services in this regard on pro-bono basis.

Olivia is also a lecturer at the Law Development Centre where she shares her knowledge and skills with upcoming advocates.
