Irene is a Legal Assistant in the Finance and Infrastructure Advisory department at Ligomarc Advocates. Equipped with very good working knowledge of legal concepts in Commercial Law, she enhances Associates’ effectiveness in general transaction advisory extending to security document preparation, preliminary legal due diligence for lenders as well as security review for lending purposes. Her typical day also involves preparation of legal opinions on any matters as required by the Firm’s Clients.

Irene has a keen interest in Tax Law and practice. In this regard she is constantly engaged in preparation of tax advisory opinions on the tax treatment of the transactions entered into by the Firm’s clients. Irene has also been engaged in pursuing the obtainment of tax rulings on critical tax matters. Her other areas of expertise are Legal Advisory on Transactional matters; Contract Drafting; Land Transactions and Security Perfection; Due Diligence and Security Review.

Irene is enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda and a Member of Uganda Law Society. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.

In 2016 Irene received a Certificate of Participation in the 2nd Africa Tax Symposium organized by the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD). While at Law Development Centre Irene was recognized with a Certificate of Excellence at the 3rd East African Human Rights Moot and contributed to a publication in the 12th Edition of Makerere Law Journal entitled “The Kite that Never reached the Sky: Challenges of Transactional Justice in Uganda”.

Winnie is a Legal Assistant in the Finance and Infrastructure Advisory department at Ligomarc Advocates. She holds a Master of Laws Degree in Commercial Law from the University of West England, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Makerere University and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Center. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda.

Winnie joined the team in January 2016 from KMA Advocates and works in a variety of roles on matters in corporate and commercial law for the Firm’s clientele. On a day to day basis she assists the Firm’s Associates in conducting Due Diligence, drafting of security documents, regulatory compliance and correspondence to clients.

Amy Amina Itogot is a legal assistant in the Dispute Resolution Department. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from Makerere University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (Dip. L.P) from the Law Development Centre. She is an advocate of the High Court and a member of the Uganda Law Society, East African Law Society, Commonwealth Lawyers Association and Young International Arbitration Group.

Amy is responsible for drafting Plaints, Written Statements of Defence and any other necessary pleadings for litigation purposes. She also conducts research for matters being handled by the department and is engaged in preparation of legal opinions on the merits and demerits of pending litigation. She currently manages client communication and carries out secretarial duties for the Department.

Amy handles the Firm’s financial fraud and criminal investigation portfolio where she oversees investigations and prosecution of accused persons in diverse financial and mortgage fraud related matters.

Amy has excellent research skills and has recently participated in The World Universities Comparative Law Project under the aegis of Allen and Overy Global Law Intelligence Unit where she was involved in the review of various laws and practices as well as in the conduct of interviews with various practitioners geared towards establishing the risk rating of the existing legal framework in Uganda.

Amy has contributed to the Makerere Law Journal (MLJ) on two occasions. The articles published in the 2012 and 2013 Makerere Law Journal were titled: ‘When Crime has a Human Face, A Critical Appraisal of the role of Mitigation in Capital Offences in Uganda’ and ‘Behind Prison Walls For Life: The Impact of Tigo Stephen v. A.G Supreme Court Judgment in regard to Life Imprisonment in Uganda’ respectively.

Timothy is a member of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution department of the firm.  He is an advocate of the High Court of Uganda. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB)(Hons) from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom  and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LDC).

Before joining the firm, Timothy previously worked with G.W.Kanyeihamba and Company Advocates and Kwari-Kyerere and Co Advocates.

Timothy’s areas of practice are predominantly in Commercial litigation and arbitration but he also has a keen interest in the Employment law and Industrial Relations and Intellectual Property law.
